Last Update:

Ligers, the crossbreeds between lions and tigers, are already a rare sight, with only about 1,000 of them known to exist worldwide, mostly in zoos and sanctuaries. However, a new generation of these exotic animals has taken rarity to the next level.

These cubs are a unique blend, as both white lions and white tigers are incredibly rare, with just 1,200 white tigers and 300 white lions alive globally.

The four cubs are currently residing at the TIGER Sanctuary in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a place known for its history of breeding ligers.

One of the sanctuary’s most famous residents is Hercules, the world’s largest cat, who weighs in at an astonishing 922 pounds.

Despite his massive size, Hercules is gentle and enjoys playful moments with his handlers—and now, with his new liger nephews.

Although the cubs are still small, they grow quickly, gaining about a pound a day. Dr. Antle, the sanctuary’s founder, compares their rapid growth to the effect of a tire pump inflating them.

Each cub shows a mix of behaviors inherited from both lions and tigers. They love swimming like tigers and are sociable like lions, with distinct personalities.

Apolo, the smallest of the group, enjoys curling up with handlers, offering affection much like a house cat.

Yeti, the largest and most energetic cub, seeks attention and is already showing signs of growing larger than his famous uncle Hercules.

As they continue to grow, these cubs are expected to reach impressive sizes. By the time they turn two, Dr. Antle predicts they will be around 10 feet tall and weigh 750 pounds—an incredible transformation from their current tiny stature.
