Here’s a heartwarming story that began on a quiet road in Lincoln County, Mississippi, where a puppy named La-Z-Boy Gatson was found all alone. In June 2019, the four-month-old pup was discovered sitting next to an old recliner and a discarded TV, seemingly waiting for someone to come back for him. Sadly, his owners had left him behind.
Animal Control Officer Sharon Norton was the first person to find La-Z-Boy. The sight of this hopeful yet abandoned little pup, sitting by the chair, moved her deeply. Despite his frail condition, La-Z-Boy held on to a glimmer of hope that his owners would return.
Sharon approached the puppy slowly, offering him food and some reassuring words. Trusting her intentions, La-Z-Boy allowed her to carry him to safety, his tail wagging in relief. At the Brookhaven City Shelter, he was cleaned up and treated for ringworm. His journey toward recovery continued when he was transferred to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League.
Sharon named the puppy La-Z-Boy Gatson, inspired by the recliner and location where he was found. At the shelter, he soon revealed his friendly nature. He enjoyed napping, playing with other dogs, and loved splashing in water. When he regained full health, he moved into foster care, patiently waiting for a forever family.
A month after his rescue, the adorable and touching story of La-Z-Boy Gatson reached Dave Trammell and Sommer Guy in Michigan. So moved by the tale, they drove over 15 hours to Mississippi to meet and adopt him. Dave recalled, “Something about the way he looked just touched me. He just looked so cute and sad.”
La-Z-Boy quickly embraced life in his new home in Plymouth, Michigan. He settled in comfortably, often sleeping on his back, a sign he felt safe and content. Now, he enjoys car rides with his canine sister, Penelope, and continues to doze happily in his permanent home.
