During a routine walk in the woods with our rescue dog, we were startled by cries coming from the bushes. Our dogs quickly sensed that something was wrong and led us to the source—a small animal in desperate need of assistance.
The sight was heartbreaking. We found a little dog unable to walk, trembling as it tried to shield itself from the world. We decided to name her Hope.
Hope had suffered greatly. She had been used for breeding her entire life and was abandoned once she became sick and could no longer serve her previous owners. Left to fend for herself without food, Hope was on the brink of death.
Her frail body was covered in painful wounds, with her skin red and raw. We immediately took her to the veterinarian, where she underwent extensive tests.
The examination revealed that her spine was deformed, most likely from being confined in a small cage for her entire life. This left her both physically and emotionally withdrawn.
Further tests uncovered a large hernia and a broken pelvis, explaining why she couldn’t walk. Despite these injuries, we held onto hope that she would not suffer permanent paralysis.
The veterinary clinic provided emergency care, stabilizing Hope and keeping her under close observation.
After four days, Hope was stable enough to be discharged, and she went home with Krista, one of our dedicated volunteers. Krista took on the responsibility of managing Hope’s numerous medications and supplements.
We assured Hope that she was now in a safe and loving environment where her days of hardship were behind her.
A month later, Hope showed significant improvement, much to the delight of the veterinary team. Strong enough to undergo surgery, she had her hernia repaired and was spayed at the same time.
Hope gradually warmed up to humans, forming new friendships and becoming increasingly sociable.
Nearly three months into her recovery, Hope was fully healed. She found a loving forever home with a family in Metha. Witnessing Hope’s happiness and progress brought immense joy to everyone involved in her rescue and recovery journey.
