The Ministry of the Environment (SMA) and the State Commission of Natural Parks and Fauna (Cepanaf) are thrilled to announce the birth of two jaguar cubs at the “El Ocotal” Species Conservation Center.
Named “Maya” and “Chaak,” the parents of these Panthera onca species welcomed the cubs on October 16. The gender of the cubs remains unknown as they are currently under the attentive care of their mother.

Veterinarians and animal welfare advocates closely monitored the birth of these magnificent felines at the “El Ocotal” Species Conservation Center.
During the birthing process, the father was separated from the mother, allowing “Maya” to proceed with the delivery naturally.
Shortly after birth, the mother began stimulating the cubs by licking them and guiding them to feed naturally.

This marks the first instance within Cepanaf records where a female jaguar, under human care, successfully rears her cubs and is reported to be in excellent health.
To ensure the well-being and development of the cubsvisitors are restricted, access to their shelves is restricted. This step aims to provide the necessary care from the mother for their growth.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categorizes the jaguar species as threatened due to a significant decline in its population.

The Government of the State of Mexico reaffirms its dedication to the welfare of species under human cases.
They encourage people to learn more about the new additions to the “El Ocotal” Species Conservation Center by following @CEPANAF on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (@zacangoedomex), and Instagram (@parque_ecologico_zacango).
