The father, Tobias, crouches down to meet his son for the first time, showing a gentle demeanor that instantly wins over viewers.

The Denver Zoo revealed that the cub was born on July 25 and had spent the first couple of months bonding with his mother, Neliah, and his half-sister, Kamara, behind the scenes.

The zoo’s director of communications, Jake Kubié, mentioned that the cub would soon debut in one of the outdoor habitats. “He’s all the things you might expect of a lion cub: playful, curious, and energetic,” Kubié noted.

The video is part of a series of “updates” that the Denver Zoo shares every other day, allowing people to follow the cub’s journey.

To raise awareness and funds for lions, the zoo lets the public choose a name for the cub.

The choices include Meru, a mountain in Tanzania; Moremi, a game reserve in Botswana; and Tatu, Swahili, for the number three, symbolizing that this cub is Neliah’s third offspring.

Denver Zoo’s social media updates have been met with enthusiastic responses from the public, with followers expressing excitement and anticipation to see the cub in person.

The video also shows the baby cub playing with his half-sister, Kamara, who is described as “the most attentive and affectionate older sister.”

While the cute video brings smiles, the Denver Zoo hopes it also raises awareness about the plight of African lions, whose population has declined by half in the last 25 years due to poaching, habitat loss, and other threats.

Through conservation programs, education, and volunteer work, the zoo aims to protect wildlife and inspire others to take action.

One of their unique initiatives, “Adopt an Animal,” allows people to symbolically adopt one of the zoo’s 4,300 animals, with a plush version as a keepsake.
