Some individuals treat their pets as mere objects, forgetting that these animals experience emotions such as pain, fear, and love.
This was the unfortunate reality for Nakiyu, a dog who had never known the comfort of a home, spending his entire life on the streets.
With winter bringing dangerously low temperatures, Nakiyu faced his toughest challenge yet. He was left tied outside, shivering in the cold, while his owners remained warm indoors, seemingly indifferent to his plight.
Nakiyu’s dire situation caught the attention of a couple passing by. They were startled to find him sitting helplessly in the deep snow, chained and unable to reach any kind of shelter.
Without food or a place to go, he was left vulnerable to the harsh elements. The couple worried about how much longer he could survive in these conditions.
Concerned for his well-being, they knocked on the door repeatedly, but no one responded. Despite the house being lit from within, it was evident that the residents had no interest in the dog outside.
Recognizing the urgency, the man swiftly went to a nearby store to purchase metal cutters. Together, they freed Nakiyu from his chain, not wasting any time in getting him to a veterinarian for care.
The vet was taken aback by Nakiyu’s condition, surprised that he wasn’t a stray considering how neglected he appeared.
Nakiyu was frail, infested with ticks, and had numerous wounds. Although not entirely malnourished, it seemed his owners had only recently stopped feeding him properly.
Injuries on his neck suggested he had been tied up for an extended period. His fur was in dreadful condition, and the tick infestation left him anemic, barely able to stand.
After being exposed to the severe cold for so long, Nakiyu was also battling hypothermia.
Thanks to the couple’s prompt actions, Nakiyu received the critical medical care he needed. Without their intervention, this winter might have been his last.
