In a rare and astonishing event at Kruger National Park, a baboon was seen cradling a tiny lion cub, an occurrence seldom witnessed in the wild.
Captured by Kurt Schultz of Kurt Safari, the photos reveal a male baboon carrying the cub with unexpected tenderness and care.

This remarkable moment unfolded within the rugged and diverse landscapes of Kruger National Park, famed for its rich wildlife.
Eyewitnesses reported initial excitement among the baboons over the cub, leading to a spirited struggle.

Eventually, a young male baboon emerged with the cub, weak and exhausted, and carried it into a nearby tree where it began to revive, surprising onlookers.
Kurt Schultz, who encountered this scene during a park exploration, expressed his amazement. With two decades of guiding experience, he had never seen such nurturing behavior from baboons toward a lion cub.
Despite the heartwarming nature of the scene, Kurt acknowledged the cub’s grim reality. High temperatures and its weakened state left the cub with slim chances of survival. He reflected on nature’s course, emphasizing that human interference would disrupt it.
